The number of victims from Russia\u2019s massive drone attack on Kyiv has risen to 18<\/strong>, as more people continue to seek medical help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was reported on Telegram by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe number of those killed in the Russian UAV and missile strike on Kyiv has increased to 2. Another 18 people were injured,\u201d<\/em> the statement reads.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

It also notes that a nine-story residential building in the Sviatoshyn district has been partially destroyed, with firefighting efforts still underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Emergency Service (SES) aviation has been deployed to help eliminate the consequences of the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported earlier, during the massive Russian drone assault on the capital, falling debris caused multiple fires. Initial reports mentioned 2 killed and 11 wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the night of September 7, Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and cruise missiles. Air raid alerts were declared in Kyiv and most regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the attack, a fire broke out in the Cabinet of Ministers building<\/strong> in central Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the blaze in the Pechersk district was likely caused by a downed drone. Firefighters are on site. Meanwhile, media outlets have published footage of smoke rising above the government building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak, referring to published photos, initially suggested that the fire broke out on the floor where the prime minister\u2019s office is located. Later, he clarified that it had started on higher floors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe PM\u2019s office is nearby but lower down, so far from the official halls,\u201d<\/em> he wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed the fire:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, for the first time as a result of an enemy attack, the government building has been damaged \u2014 the roof and upper floors. Rescuers are extinguishing the fire. I thank them for their work. We will restore the building. But lost lives cannot be returned. The enemy terrorizes and kills our people across the country every day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Svyrydenko also stressed the need for tougher international measures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe world must increase sanctions pressure on Russia, especially against its oil and gas sector. New restrictions are needed to hit the Kremlin\u2019s war machine. And above all, Ukraine needs weapons \u2014 the tools that will stop the terror and prevent Russia from trying to kill Ukrainians every day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
