{"id":1205499,"date":"2025-08-21T23:59:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T20:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/?p=1205499"},"modified":"2025-08-21T19:29:57","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T16:29:57","slug":"europe-will-need-tens-of-thousands-of-troops-in-ukraine-after-the-war-german-military-association-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/europe-will-need-tens-of-thousands-of-troops-in-ukraine-after-the-war-german-military-association-head\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe Will Need Tens of Thousands of Troops in Ukraine After the War \u2013 German Military Association Head"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>European NATO leaders must recognize that tens of thousands of troops will need to be deployed in Ukraine for the long term<\/strong>, Colonel Andr\u00e9 W\u00fcstner, head of the German Armed Forces Association, told Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>W\u00fcstner, whose association represents over <strong>200,000 active and retired military personnel<\/strong>, urged European leaders not to underestimate the military task and to speak honestly about the challenges, even if a quick ceasefire in Ukraine seems unlikely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt will not be enough for a few generals and small military units to occupy a command post in Ukraine. From the start, Putin must clearly understand that we take security guarantees seriously, and this must be backed by international forces. We take supporting Ukraine seriously, we take maintaining a ceasefire seriously, and we take seriously our response if Putin tries to attack Ukraine again,\u201d W\u00fcstner said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He warned that a <strong>\u201cbluff-and-pray\u201d approach<\/strong> would be negligent and increase the risk of escalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>W\u00fcstner estimated that each major country in the \u201cCoalition of the Willing,\u201d such as <strong>the UK, France, and Germany<\/strong>, would need to deploy <strong>at least 10,000 troops in Ukraine for the long term<\/strong>, which would be a significant challenge for their already overstretched and under-equipped armed forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEurope remains a military dwarf and can barely meet the new NATO commitments it took on at the last summit.
