The Russian threat will remain for many years,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rutte reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to NATO, referencing former President Donald Trump\u2019s recent statements supporting Article 5 and the Alliance. However, he acknowledged American expectations for increased defense spending by European and Canadian allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There is a clear expectation from the U.S. that we will match their contributions to NATO\u2019s European defense. This is necessary due to the Russian threat, China\u2019s nuclear buildup, and concerns about Iran and North Korea,&#8221; Rutte explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His remarks follow leaked Pentagon documents suggesting a shift in U.S. strategy, identifying China as the primary global threat.
