{"id":1115152,"date":"2025-03-20T17:05:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T15:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/?p=1115152"},"modified":"2025-03-19T10:57:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T08:57:48","slug":"danish-pm-europe-must-be-able-to-fully-defend-itself-within-3-5-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/danish-pm-europe-must-be-able-to-fully-defend-itself-within-3-5-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Danish PM: Europe Must Be Able to Fully Defend Itself Within 3-5 Years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Europe must become entirely self-sufficient in defense within the next three to five years to deter a \u201cvery aggressive\u201d Russia, which could attack an EU country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated this in an interview with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/danish-pm-europe-russia-migrants-denmark-prime-minister-vladimir-putin\/\">Politico<\/a><\/em> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am fully in favor of rearming Europe, and I want us to set a very ambitious goal: within three to five years, we must be fully capable of defending ourselves in Europe,\u201d Frederiksen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She emphasized that rearmament is now the \u201cmost important issue\u201d facing the European Union due to the ongoing threat from Russia. According to Frederiksen, Russia could attempt an attack \u201cin the very short term\u201d if countries fail to take measures to deter it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you look at what they are doing with sabotage, hybrid attacks, the use of migrants\u2026 trying to destabilize our countries through disinformation, fake news, and so on, Russia\u2019s readiness to fight against Europe is quite high,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure that will change, unfortunately,\u201d the prime minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frederiksen\u2019s comments came as U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone on Tuesday about a potential ceasefire in Ukraine. They did not reach an agreement but stated their intention to continue discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frederiksen expressed skepticism about Putin\u2019s willingness to end the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am not very optimistic about Russia because when I look at their behavior, it is so directed against humanity, against Europe, and everything we believe in, that they must prove they want to live a normal neighborly life with us in Europe,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Background:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In early March, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen introduced a five-step plan for the rearmament of the EU and support for Ukraine, <em>Rearm Europe<\/em>, with a proposed budget of up to \u20ac800 billion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At an emergency EU defense summit on March 6, all EU leaders, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n, unanimously voted in favor of <em>Rearm Europe<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read also:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/allies-must-prepare-for-nato-without-u-s-ex-head-of-nato-s-strategic-planning-staff\/\">Allies must prepare for NATO without U.S. \u2013 ex-head of NATO\u2019s strategic planning staff<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Europe must become entirely self-sufficient in defense within the next three to &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":31,"featured_media":1115154,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[49,36415,36422],"tags":[78],"sources":[],"class_list":["post-1115152","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-en","category-11473-news-en","category-11473-news-en-3","tag-homepage-en"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
