The Biden Administration Declares Support for a Future Syrian Government Meeting Key Conditions<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Biden Administration announced its recognition and support for a new Syrian government that meets specific criteria: rejection of terrorism, destruction of chemical weapons stockpiles, and protection of minority and women’s rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement<\/a>, issued by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to a political transition in Syria aimed at establishing reliable, inclusive, and non-sectarian governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe transitional process and the new government must adhere to clear commitments to fully respect minority rights, facilitate humanitarian aid for all in need, prevent Syria from being used as a base for terrorism or as a threat to its neighbors, and ensure the safe destruction of any remaining chemical and biological weapons,\u201d Blinken emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He underscored that the future of Syria will be decided by the Syrian people, and all nations should commit to supporting an inclusive, transparent process while refraining from external interference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe United States will recognize and fully support the future Syrian government that emerges from this process. We stand ready to provide all necessary assistance to Syria’s diverse communities and organizations,\u201d Blinken noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports indicate that the U.S. currently has no plans to lift sanctions on Syria or alter its non-intervention policy following the fall of Bashar al-Assad\u2019s regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The future of Syria after Assad’s regime is expected to be a key topic at the upcoming EU leaders’ summit on December 19. Additionally, the G7 nations will discuss the situation during a virtual summit on December 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
