The White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, confirmed that Ukraine has been granted permission to strike Russian territory with long-range ATACMS missiles.

This statement from Kirby was made during a briefing on Monday, November 25, as reported by Anadolu.

According to Kirby, the United States has “indeed changed the guidelines” regarding the use of ATACMS missiles, and now Ukrainians “can use them to target specific types of objectives.”

“They can now use ATACMS for self-defense in cases of immediate necessity. And now, clearly, this is happening in the Kursk region, in the Kursk oblast,” added the White House representative.

He noted that it would be up to the Ukrainian side to speak about “how they use ATACMS, how they identify targets, what they use them for, and how effectively they do so.”

Kirby’s words became the first official confirmation that Ukraine had received permission to strike Russian territory with American long-range weaponry. Unofficially, it became known that ATACMS were first used in Russia’s Bryansk oblast last week.

Following this, the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin, threatened Western states that allow Kyiv to strike Russia with their weapons, warning of retaliatory strikes.
