What Putin is proposing has nothing to do with peace, he wants to achieve the capitulation of Ukraine,” – opinion

The Kremlin regime continues to spread its vision of ending the war. Recently, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said that he wants to continue the Istanbul “peace talks” with Ukraine. In fact, what Putin is proposing is the surrender of Ukraine, which he wants to achieve through so-called peace negotiations, because he cannot achieve it on the battlefield. Political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko expressed this opinion on the FREEDOM TV channel.

“What the Russian dictator Putin is proposing has nothing to do with peace. This is the Ukrainian capitulation that Putin wants because he cannot achieve it on the battlefield. He cannot defeat the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the Ukrainian state. Therefore, he is trying to take advantage of the excitement around the topic of peace and peace negotiations, which, by the way, appeared after the summit in Switzerland,” the political scientist noted.

According to him, Putin’s proposal has nothing to do with peace. He wants Ukraine to disarm.

“So he refers to the 2022 Istanbul negotiations. By the way, he does not refer to any agreements, because there were no agreements. There were proposals from the Ukrainian side. Ukraine was ready to make certain compromises in Istanbul on March 29. But in exchange for Russia returning to pre-invasion lines on February 23. That did not happen. Putin refers to a document that is dated April 15, 22. These are not some kind of agreements, this is a Russian draft peace treaty, which Ukraine did not accept,” the broadcast guest stated.

He explained why Ukraine did not accept this draft treaty.

“Because in this draft agreement we were talking about reducing the Ukrainian army by four times, reducing Ukrainian weapons. In fact, the talk was about the disarmament of Ukraine. Naturally, Ukraine did not agree to such conditions. And Putin, as always, is blatantly and vilely lying. He shows these papers. And the project and the date April 15 were noticeably written there. The Ukrainian and Russian delegations last met in Istanbul on March 29. There were no meetings in April,” the expert added.

According to the political scientist, the Russian dictator, proposing to continue the Istanbul “peace negotiations,” wants not only to end the war, but to disarm Ukraine for the further seizure of its territories.

“Putin doesn’t just want to end the war. He’s not interested. He wants Ukraine to agree to disarmament, to reduce its army so that we are left with a symbolic 60-80 thousand people who, of course, will not be able to defend the entire country. Therefore, these are, of course, Putin’s tricks, his manipulations, which have nothing to do with the world. Putin is not trying to dilute President Zelenskyy’s peace formula. He categorically does not accept her at all. He wants to neutralize the effect of the Peace Summit. Some people have hopes for peace negotiations, some have begun to offer themselves as a mediator, others want to invite Russia to the next Peace Summit. But Putin decided to play a counter-game. He decided to raise the stakes and is trying to impose his conditions,” concluded Fesenko.
