Alexander Stubb thinks Ukraine is in the right to lay the ground for negotiations with the Russian Federation now and has the necessary advantages it needs.
He made such a statement in an interview with Le Monde.
“Ukraine and Zelensky are in a much stronger position than two months ago. They are receiving the equipment and budgets necessary to maintain their positions,” Stubb explained his position to Le Monde.
However, he stressed that “the ball is in Russia’s court” now and it must start reacting to offers that have been voiced, and no territorial concessions from Ukraine can be basis for the negotiation process.
Stubb laid his list of vital elements of the possible negotiating process so that a just peace is established.
“The first is the territories currently occupied by Russia, and this will be his sole decision. Second, Ukraine needs security guarantees. And this is where we can help, through bilateral agreements, and a possible path to NATO, and of course, to the European Union [EU] . Third, justice is needed, in order to prosecute Russian war criminals. Finally, Zelenskyy needs support for the reconstruction of his country,” the leader of Finland said.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will present a peace plan by November.
