Europe needs to be ready to take decisive action against the Russian Federation should it attack Ukraine.
This was stated in a blog by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, UA reports.
According to him, different scenarios are possible. Borrell also acknowledged that there were few statements about deterring Russian aggression.
According to him, the European Union does not know the ultimate intentions of the Kremlin, except that Russia is trying to weaken Kyiv.
“We need to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. We cannot rule out Russia’s desire to use this crisis as a lever to achieve the stated goal of changing the security structure in Europe” – he said.
He also noted that it is important that the EU leaders decide to continue the existing economic sanctions and warned that any action by Russia against Ukraine will have serious consequences.
Earlier, Borrell said that Ukraine can count on political, diplomatic, economic and financial support from the EU.
