The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law introducing amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding military duty and military service.
A total of 278 MPs voted for the document at a parliament meeting on October 17, 2019, reports Ukrinform.
“The bill introduces NATO ranks for non-commissioned, warrant officers and soldiers and also normalizes their development in accordance with NATO standards and the challenges facing our country,” Deputy Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Mariana Bezuhla said, presenting the document.
She also said that the law aims to improve legislation on military duty.
“The bill is aimed at improving the Ukrainian legislation on military duty, the introduction of new military ranks of non-commissioned and warrant officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces that meet NATO standards, enhancing the role of non-commissioned and warrant officers in the training and education of subordinate personnel to ensure they perform tasks assigned to them, the creation of additional motivational factors for Ukrainian citizens to undergo military service under contracts, which will facilitate the transition of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Ukraine to a professional basis,” Bezuhla said.
