The Russian Federation can be ousted from Ukrainian lands, but this requires concentration and support from allies, said the United States senator Chris Coons at the Halifax International Security Forum in Canada, UNN reports .

“I think we will be able to squeeze Russia out of Ukraine, but this requires concentration, determination, interaction with our allies. We need to make it a lasting priority,” Coons said.

He recalled the occupation by the Soviet Union of the Baltic states, which was not recognized by the U.S., as well as the fact that the acquisition of independence for the Baltic states took “dozens of years.”

“This (the situation in Ukraine) is a frozen conflict, and I support our president’s move to invest in providing more lethal weapons, more support, more training. There are changes Ukraine also needs to make as well, but I think in partnership with our vital allies, it is entirely possible,” Coons said.
