US President Joe Biden has announced his withdrawal from the presidential election and proposed to nominate Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
This is stated in his statements published on the social network X.
‘It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your president. And while I intended to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to step down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term. Later this week, I will provide more details about my decision,’ he said in a statement.
Biden noted that the United States has never been in a better leadership position than it is today.
The US President thanked his campaign team members and US Vice President Kamala Harris for ‘being an incredible partner in all of this work’.
Biden noted that his first decision as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as his vice president.
‘And it was the best decision I ever made. Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats – it’s time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s do it,’ he wrote.
The US presidential election will be held on 5 November this year.
