American President, Donald Trump, announced the introduction of “the largest-ever” sanctions against North Korea.

The sanctions are aimed at stopping North Korea’s illegal maritime activities, and also their supply of coal and oil, Voice of America reported.

27 shipping and trading companies, 28 vessels, and one individual were included in the sanction list.

Trump made the announcement about the sanctions during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

According to him, the U.S. Department of the Treasury will soon apply new measures, in order to limit North Korea’s revenue sources that are used to finance its nuclear program.

The U.S. administration is worried about the role of Russia and China in helping North Korea to overcome the sanctions.

Recently, Japan reported that it saw a ship with Chinese inscriptions that transfered fuel from one ship to another, and that Japan suspects that such actions violated the sanctions that were imposed on North Korea last year. The United Nations Security Council passed a resolution in 2017, that imposed restrictions on oil imports to North Korea.

“Today’s sanctions will significantly hinder North Korea’s ability to conduct evasive maritime activities that facilitate illicit coal and fuel transports, and limit the regime’s ability to ship goods through international waters. The president has made it clear to companies worldwide, that if they choose to help fund North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, they will not do business with the United States,” a statement by the White House said.
