Stephen Blank, a Senior Fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council’s analytical center, said that the U.S. military assistance to Ukraine would not be limited to the provision of Javelins, an American anti-tank missile.

According to him, there is no reason to believe that sending Javelin missiles is sufficient to show “the serious intentions of the United States to persuade Putin to withdraw troops from Ukraine.”

Blank insists that Ukraine has to build a Navy from scratch, and it still has a serious need for military surveillance and information gathering, to combat Russian drones and intelligence.

The expert is convinced that to force Putin to retreat, the West should not only support the reforms in the Ukrainian defense sector, but also government and economic reforms, and provide military equipment that Ukraine can’t produce on its own.

On Jan. 30, U.S Special Representative to Ukraine, Kurt Volker stated that Javelins are being prepared for delivery to Ukraine.
