Poland will spend almost 5 billion US dollars on a new missile defense system. The nation’s president Andrzej Duda announced the deal with the US and declared it to be historic. The new missile defense system was sought by Poland to increase its defense capabilities in the wake of heightened Russian aggression. According to the Polish defense ministry, further negotiations are scheduled for April 16th, to discuss the purchase of an additional six missile systems from the U.S.

“All this combined makes up for a defensive umbrella for our country against all kinds of air strikes. I’m glad that Poland is buying this umbrella. This is the first phase, after which, we will go to the second phase. As I have said, it’s a lot of money, but we also know from our historical experience that security is priceless,” claimed the Poland President Andrzej Duda.
