US Army Units Transfer Authority at Lviv Training Center

The official ceremony of Transfer of Authority between two units, participating in the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine (JMTG-U) took place on May 2, 2019 at the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy.

 

More than 130 soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team “STRIKE”, 101st Airborne US Army Division (Air Assault) came to replace the Tennessee National Guard’s 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, which has been in Ukraine since summer 2018, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported.

The American soldiers are expected to stay in Ukraine for nine months.

 

American Tennessee Guardians did well with their task on training Ukrainian units within the Joint Multinational Training Group – Ukraine and received Ukrainian Defense Ministry awards, granted to them by the Head of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy, general-lieutenant Pavlo Tkachuk.

 

Representatives of the US Army are continuing facilitating in the military training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the NATO military training standard. This military training mission is known as Joint Multinational Training Group – Ukraine (JMTG-U). Its operational activity was established in 2015. Its objective is to contribute to the internal defense capability of Ukraine and the training of rotating units in Ukraine.

In addition, US military personnel will continue to train Ukrainian military instructors who, in the near future, should fully master the training of personnel at the battalion level.

“Most of the soldiers who are sent to Ukraine are leaders, have many years of experience and are capable to provide decent training. I hope this will be a great opportunity to share experiences,” Lt. Col. Robert Tracy, commander of 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division and senior commander for the Task Force Carentan said.

The 101st Airborne Division of the US Army was formed in August 1942 and participated in the allied landing in Normandy in June 1944. The division troops participated in the siege of Bastogne, Belgium; the Ardennes Operation in December 1944 and the Dutch Airborne Operation. Task force Carentan is named after the six-day battle for the French city of Carentan during the Normandy operation.

The personnel of the 101st Airborne Division have taken part in hostilities in Vietnam, Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan. The Emblem of the Division is the “Screaming Eagles.”
