US and Ukraine inked a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture

June 13, 2022, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky held a videoconference call with his counterpart, the United States Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack during which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the  U.S. Department of Agriculture on agricultural cooperation.

The parties seek to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural and food sectors, and to build a strong strategic partnership to address food security issues. To achieve these goals, the parties agreed to cooperate and exchange information in the field of crop and livestock, including agricultural statistics, exchange of data on climate conditions for productivity, as well as information on food security needs and provide support in conditions of limited resources and supply chain disruptions.

As part of the MoU, it is planned to renew the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Cochran Fellowship Program in Ukraine. The Memorandum will also help improve communication on bilateral trade.

Mykola Solsky thanked the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture for supporting Ukraine in the difficult times of russian aggression and cooperation, which was reflected in the Memorandum.

The sides also discussed the transformation of agri-food systems against the background of the war in Ukraine. Mykola Solsky briefed his U.S. counterpart on the current situation in Ukraine’s agricultural sector and the potential of Ukraine’s export potential.
