The professionalism of Ukrainian energy workers has once again kept the world from the possible catastrophic consequences of destabilizing the operation of the ZNPP as a result of Russian shelling.
This was emphasized by the Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, commenting on the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
“The Russian occupying forces, by shelling the area around the ZNPP, provoked changes in the stability of the plant’s operation. For the first time in history, the ZNPP was completely disconnected from the network. The incredible professionalism of Ukrainian energy workers once again protected the world from possible catastrophic consequences – the station already has power for its own needs. There are currently no remarks on the operation of automation and security systems,” said German Galushchenko.
He emphasized that the station had been occupied for almost six months, and the presence of Russian military personnel inside the plant and near it, whose next actions cannot be predicted, is a constant trigger of a possible nuclear disaster.
“I want to appeal to the world community once again: the joint mission of the IAEA and the UN at the ZNPP should have the mandate to study not only the norms for ensuring nuclear safety but also external security components, primarily those related to weapons and their use by the Russian military on the territory of the plant and near her,” the Minister emphasized.
“Urgent de-occupation and demilitarization of the ZNPP is the only way so that Europe can sleep peacefully and not be afraid of nuclear clouds in its sky,” German Galushchenko concluded.
