“For a successful implementation of the reforms currently taking place in the field of child protection, partnership with powerful civic organizations is extremely important,” Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children’s Rights Mykola Kuleba said during a meeting with the newly appointed UNICEF Representative for Ukraine Lotta Sylwander.
During the meeting, the Commissioner informed the Head of UNICEF in Ukraine on the state of implementation of the reform of the institutional care and education system for children, legislative mechanisms, practices and problems in the field of child protection.
Sylwander talked about new directions of UNICEF work in Ukraine. In addition to the UNICEF humanitarian mission in the east of Ukraine, assistance to internally displaced persons and other important projects that the organization implements in our country, Sylwander has promised to support the process of implementation of the DI Reform.
Kuleba noted that at the beginning of the second stage of the reform it was extremely important to carry out independent monitoring with the involvement of international experts to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of each child. Such monitoring will make it possible to implement the reform taking into account the best international experience.
“I am convinced that with the support of such a powerful international organization as UNICEF we will be able to achieve the desired results in the field of child protection and create truly safe welfare for the children of Ukraine,” Kuleba said.
