Poland sees that the unanimity principle in the EU stands in the way of approving proper sanctions against Russia as it keeps waging the war in Ukraine.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said this in Brussels on May 27.

“Some people defend the principle of unanimity like independence. However, we see that in the area of sanctions, this prevents the realization of Polish national interests, which is for Russia to bear the consequences of its aggressive war,” Sikorsky pointed out, hinting at Hungary that speaks against support for Ukraine and undermines EU joint efforts.

Also in Brussels, Polish Foreign Minister claimed that Hungary was blocking “almost half of all EU decisions regarding Ukraine, above all the 8th refund package for aid delivered to Ukraine by member states, to their, and Poland’s utmost irritation”.

Earlier, Polish Foreign Ministry announced that Poland decided to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats inside the country due to Russia’s hybrid attacks at the EU.
