Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have discussed the need to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Alliance and European countries.

Umerov wrote this in a post on his Facebook page, Ukrinform reports.

“Before the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting, I had an important conversation with the Secretary General of the Alliance and a great friend of Ukraine, Mark Rutte,” Umerov noted.

He also stressed, “Ukraine does not abandon its strategic course – we see our future in NATO. This is our security priority, and our army is already an essential part of Euro-Atlantic security”.

Umerov informed Rutte about the development of Ukraine’s defense industry and plans to enhance its military capabilities.

He also added that every year, Ukraine strengthens its contribution to countering Russian aggression, but allied support remains critically important.

Umerov and Rutte also discussed the need to bolster NATO and European countries’ defense capabilities.

“Security challenges are only growing—we must respond to them in a united and proactive manner,” Umerov stressed.

The Ukrainian minister thanked Rutte for another constructive discussion.
