At a meeting in Brussels, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Canadian Minister of National Defense Bill Blair have discussed Ukraine’s need for missiles for NASAMS air defense systems.

Umerov announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“The Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting is not just about coordinating international assistance—it’s also an opportunity for bilateral talks with key partners,” he posted.

Umerov noted that one of the main topics of discussion was missiles for NASAMS air defense systems.

The parties also discussed cooperation with Canadian companies in drone development.

“Joint production and experience sharing could significantly enhance our technological capabilities. This is an issue we will revisit for further in-depth work,” Umerov added.

He also expressed gratitude for Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine, even in the face of other pressing challenges facing the international community, citing the recently announced CAD 100 million support package for Ukraine’s defense industry based on the Danish model.

“I look forward to further strengthening our partnership and exploring new avenues of cooperation,” he stressed.

As Ukrinform reported, Rustem Umerov began his work in Brussels at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format.
