NATO and Ukrainian Naval Forces carried out joint exercises yesterday, July 24.

This was stated by the commander of the Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2), Boudewijn Boots, who answered a question about joint maneuvers with the Ukrainian Naval Forces, Ukrinform reports.

“Tomorrow morning, we will hold a joint planning event, and we will include joint exercises not only on mine detection and mine clearance, but also on developing certain skills in the sea. We need to learn how to maneuver in conditions of military conflict, how to transmit and receive signals to understand each other. It will be just the next steps that we are making,” Boots said.

Six warships of the SNMG2 and the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 are on a friendly visit to Odesa. They include Royal Netherlands Navy frigate HNLMS De Ruyter, Turkish Navy frigate TCG Fatih, Romanian Navy frigate ROS Regele Ferdinand, the German Navy’s auxiliary vessel Rhein, Turkish Navy’s minesweeper Anamur, and Romanian Navy’s minesweeper Lupu Dinescu.

They will monitor the situation in the Black and Azov Seas.

The escalation of the conflict with Russia in the territorial waters of Ukraine has compelled the Alliance to strengthen its presence there.

Under the Partnership for Peace program, these ships will stay in Odesa for a week.
