Ukrainian fencer, Olympic champion Olga Kharlan won the silver medal at the women’s sabre fencing World Cup in Tunis, Tunisia.
“Kharlan is the silver winner of the sabre fencing World Cup in Tunisia! Well done! Thank you for the fight and for the medal,” the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine wrote on Twitter.
In the quarterfinals, Kharlan defeated Olga Yegoryan from Russia, and later overcame Romanian Bianca Pascu in semifinals. In the final match, Kharlan competed against the two-time World Championship and triple European Championship medalist, the Frenchwoman, Manon Brunet, but lost with a score of 15-14.
“The first picture is clearly expressing my condition after the individual competition at the World Cup in Tunis: tired, happy and silver medal!” Kharlan describes her emotions on Facebook.

Last week, Kharlan was the winner of the international tournament in Antalya, Turkey.
She won five out of six fights in the group round. In the first match, Kharlan defeated Brigitta Pentek from Hungary 15-8, then defeated Ukrainian Alina Komashchuk 15-6, Belarusian fencer Hanna Ivanishchanka 15-5, and in the final match, another fencer from Belarus, Darya Andreyeva 15-14.
