Ukrainian defender brutally killed in Russian captivity, forensic medical exam confirms

Ukrainian POW, captured in Mariupol as a driver of the Azov Regiment, Oleksandr Ishchenko was tortured and died due to a blunt chest injury, deputy commander of the Azov regiment within the National Guard of Ukraine Sviatoslav Palamar reported.

“Everyone should know about this case: from the USA to China. The killings of Ukrainian prisoners of war should become the number one topic in the world media and the agenda of international organizations. Only publicity, pressure on the Russians and the return of our prisoners home can stop these killings,” Palamar wrote on Facebook.

The Azov regiment deputy commander also attached a medical report, confirming that the Ukrainian POW was killed. Oleksandr’s wife gave her permission to do so.

He appealed to Ukrainian diplomats and human rights activist to make every effort to convey such stories to representatives of the UN and other international bodies.

Previously, Ombudsman for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets stated that Ukraine got to know about Oleksandr’s death 9 days after it occured.

Oleksandr Ishchenko was captured by Russians in Mariupol, his hometown, in the spring of 2022.
