Ukrainian Culture Union Founded in Izmir, Turkey

Ukrainians from Izmir in Turkey, oficially registered a public association called “Ukrainian Union of Solidarity in Izmir” (Izmir Ukrayina Dayanışma Derneği), the website of the nongovernmental organization “Ukrainian Union, reported.

“Izmir diaspora worked for it for a long time. Creating a union is a responsible and difficult step, but our compatriots managed to do this. Therefore, we officially congratulate the Izmir community for creating a new Ukrainian cultural center in their beautiful city,” the statement by the Ukrainian Union said.

The leaders of the union are Svytlana Erali and Olena Ozbek. Seven individuals are part of the executive body. The union is not large, but it is expected that the number of its members will increase, due to the desire of local Ukrainians to unite and popularize their culture.

In total, 11 unions of Ukrainian culture are registered in Turkey. Another one is in the process of registration.
