The Ukrainian Ministry of Health, in partnership with UNICEF and with financial support from the U.S. government, is starting to upgrade refrigeration equipment for the transportation and temporary storage of vaccines.
This is reported by UA with reference to the website of the Ministry of Health.
To meet existing needs, USAID is providing USD 2.8 million to UNICEF to purchase passive refrigeration equipment for the safe and efficient transport and temporary storage of vaccines in primary care facilities and for use by mobile teams.
“Every adult Ukrainian can be vaccinated against COVID-19 today. We have enough vaccines to vaccinate 70% of the population by the end of the year. The Ministry of Health expects the delivery of vaccines in October-December. We are grateful to our partners who are helping us to safely store and transport an increasing amount of vaccines that we receive” – said Chief State Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin.
In total it is planned to deliver:
- 5,643 thermal containers;
- 8,100 thermal bags;
- 197,730 ice packs;
- 27,486 temperature monitoring devices.
With the support of USAID, 3,100 vaccination points will receive equipment, of which 1,034 work on the basis of primary health care facilities, and 800 mobile teams.
In the future, this equipment can be used for transportation and storage of vaccines provided for by the national vaccination schedule.
To date, USAID has allocated about USD 10 million to support vaccination in Ukraine and donated almost 2.2 million COVID-19 vaccines to Ukraine directly through COVAX.
