On October 16, 2017, Ukraine was elected a member of the UN Human Rights Committee for 2018-2020

Ukraine’s priority during its three-year membership in the UN Committee for Human Rights will be the protection of the aforementioned rights around the world, including and especially the rights of Crimeans and residents from the Donbas region, both whose land is currently in conflict.

“Having completed its mission as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, now Ukraine has begun a three-year membership in the UN Human Rights Committee. The protection of human rights around the world, including rights of people from Crimea and Donbas, is our priority,” wrote on his Twitter page Ukrainian President.
