Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met with Joe Biden at the White House and reiterated Japanese support for Ukraine.
On April 10, while meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Japan is determined to tighten sanctions against Russia to decrease its war efforts and, hence, help Ukraine.
“Regarding Russia’s aggression [against] Ukraine, based on a recognition that Ukraine today may be East Asia tomorrow — taking the issue as our own problem for Japan, I expressed our resolution to continue with stringent sanctions against Russia and strong support for Ukraine,” Japanese PM Fumio Kishida told Biden.
“Without US support, how long before the hopes of Ukraine would collapse under the onslaught from Moscow?” Kishida asked US Congressmen as he also gave a speech before them, according to ABC.
Congress still hasn’t unblocked military aid for Ukraine despite Ukraine being very vocal about the urgent need of ammunition and air defense.
Japan and US are willing to strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific amid the mutual threat from China, North Korea and Russia.
