Ukraine’s govt and parliament agreed on joint actions aimed at the implementation of international humanitarian law

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk took part in a meeting of the Temporary Special Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on international humanitarian and international criminal law in the context of the armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine.

In her speech, she informed the People’s Deputies of Ukraine, who are part of the commission, about the practical experience of applying international humanitarian law in the conditions of a full-scale russian invasion.

“Recent months have shown that there is a number of “white spots” in the legislation regarding the application of international humanitarian law. To solve this problem, we have developed the concept of the law on the application of international humanitarian law in Ukraine, which should lay the foundation for future legislation,” noted Iryna Vereshchuk.

Following the presentation of the concept, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk and MPs agreed that the team of the Ministry for Reintegration of Temporary Occupied Territoires will soon form a draft law based on the concept to be jointly revised in the future.
