Ukraine receives EUR 2 mln from Italy after the visit of Angelino Alfano to Donbas

“Minister Angelino Alfano’s visit to Ukraine gave him an opportunity to announce allocation of humanitarian aid package for the population affected by the humanitarian crisis in eastern Ukraine worth 2 million EUR” , according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy.

In particular, €500,000 will come from the World Food Programme (WFP) for delivery of food and essential goods, €500,000 will be donated by UNICEF for financing mine safety education programs, and €1 million will be allocated to the International Committee of the Red Cross to meet the needs of health care.

According to the Italian foreign ministry, after arriving in Mariupol Angelino Alfano stressed that the Ukrainian crisis is a priority for the Italy’s OSCE chairmanship. During the meeting with the Head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission Ertugrul Apakan in Donbas he expressed his support from Italy and stated that the mission operation in high-danger zone is important for the implementation of the Minsk Agreements and the prevention of a dangerous escalation of the conflict.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also informed that in the second half of the day of January 31 Italian minister left for Moscow, where on February 1 a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was scheduled.

Note that on January 30, 2018 during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Angelino Alfano, the first as OSCE Chairman-in-Office, had negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.
