Ukraine is ready to hand over around 20 prisoners to Russia in exchange for Ukrainians who are currently being held in Russia.

This was announced at a briefing by the First Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Iryna Herashchenko, Depo.ua reported.

She said that the exchange of prisoners will be discussed again during the next meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group, which will take place on April 4. The Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine, is a group of representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The group was formed as a means to facilitate a diplomatic resolution to the war in the Donbas region.

Herashchenko said that the Ukrainian government is doing everything it can to ensure that the next wave of release of hostages will happen as soon as possible.

“In order to free Sentsov, Kolchenko and other Ukrainian captives, Ukraine is ready to hand over those 20 Russians detained in prisons for violating Ukrainian legislations and participating in the war. Here, only the will of the Russian Federation is very important. So far, unfortunately, that there is no such will,” Herashchenko said. She further stated that the Ukrainian government is also counting on the support of its international partners.
