Estonian intelligence has confirmed that Ukraine is gradually withdrawing its military contingent from Russia’s Kursk region and provided updates on the situation in the Donetsk direction.
This was stated by Deputy Head of Estonian Intelligence Janek Kesselmann, as quoted by ERR.
The Estonian intelligence officer reported that the most active military operations in the Russia-Ukraine war are currently taking place in the Kursk region. He confirmed that Estonia has observed an “organized withdrawal of the Ukrainian contingent from the Kursk region.”
At the same time, the country’s intelligence center has no information indicating that Russia has significantly increased its troop presence in the Kursk direction in recent months.
“The actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also suggest that the command has made a decision to withdraw from the Kursk direction,” Kesselmann said.
He added that prolonged battles are still ongoing in the Kursk region, allowing Ukrainian units to withdraw.
According to Kesselmann, there is also a massive Russian propaganda campaign in the media.
Regarding other areas, Kesselmann noted that Russia continues to put pressure on the Donetsk region, particularly in the direction of Pokrovsk.
On March 10, British intelligence reported that Ukrainian defense forces had launched several counteroffensive actions near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, while in the Kursk region, the Russian army was exerting pressure on Ukrainian units.
On March 13, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russian forces had attacked Ukrainian positions 84 times across 10 front-line directions. The Pokrovsk direction remained the hottest, while fighting continued in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces repelled five enemy attacks that day.
On March 14, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that “thousands of Ukrainian troops are completely surrounded by Russian forces and in a very bad and vulnerable position,” likely referring to recent events in Russia’s Kursk region.
