Ukraine has chaired the EU strategy for the Danube region

Ukraine has taken over the presidency of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region.

The solemn transfer of Ukraine’s presidency from Slovakia took place on October 27 at the end of the 10th Annual EU Strategy Forum for the Danube Region (EUSDR), which took place on October 26-27 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Ukraine has committed itself to chairing for one year – until November 2022. The main goal is to determine the priority areas of cooperation between the countries within the initiative.

At the forum in Bratislava, Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories for European Integration Ihor Korkhovyi noted that Ukraine’s presidency will focus on strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries of the Danube region.

“We will work to find a mutually beneficial situation so that everyone can be effective and efficient. Ukraine needs to get something, and the EU Strategy also needs to get something from Ukraine” – Korkhovy said.

Another major goal is to address the important challenges of climate change and global warming.

“Green transformation and decarbonisation is one of the thematic items of our program and one of the key issues for next year” – Korkhovyi said.

As part of the initiative, the countries of the Danube region plan to share experience and knowledge in various fields. In this way, Ukraine can share its experience in the field of digitalization and learn from the countries of the Western Balkans, which are one step ahead in terms of European integration.
