Only diplomats will be able to vote there. Other Russian citizens will not be allowed to vote in Ukraine, according to the decision by the Interior and Foreign Ministries. This decision was made to avoid possible provocations, taking into account Russia’s neglect of Ukraine’s demand not to hold the election in occupied Crimea.

“On February 21, the state of Ukraine announced a strong protest against the holding of the March 18 presidential election in the temporarily occupied territory of the Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, referring to international law. The Russian Federation ignored this demand. Ukraine cannot authorize the holding of elections in the territory of our state in representative and consular institutions. We clearly stated this on Friday. Access to citizens of the Russian Federation, except representatives with diplomatic status, the embassy and four consulates in Kiev, Odessa, Lviv and Kharkiv, will not be granted. The embassy will be guarded by the National Guard until evening,” stated Ukrainian Ministry Of Internal Affairs speaker Artem Shevchenko.
