Ukraine Demands the Release of Activist Nariman Memedeminov in Occupied Crimea

Ukraine demands the release of blogger and activist, Nariman Memedeminov, after Russian officers illegally detained him in Crimea.

This was stated by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mariana Betsa, on Twitter.

“After illegal elections, the occupants are intensifying pressure on Crimean Tatars. We demand the release of activist Nariman Memedeminov,” Betsa wrote.

On March 22, The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), searched Memedeminov’s house in Kholmivka village, in the region of Bakhchysarai. Later, he was taken to a FSB center in Simferopol for questioning.

According to media reports, on March 23, the Kyivsky District Court in Simferopol ruled to arrest Memedeminov until May 16. He was charged with allegedly promoting extremist statements in a YouTube video shot in 2012-13.
