U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is seeking a way to exchange Ukraine’s rare earth metals for American assistance.

This was reported by Voice of America correspondent Kateryna Lisunova from the White House and covered by AFP.

The American president expressed interest in acquiring Ukraine’s rare earth resources in return for U.S. support.

“We are telling Ukraine that they have valuable rare earth minerals. I want Ukraine to give us rare earth resources,” Trump stated.

These minerals are essential for the production of smartphones, batteries, magnets, lasers, and other modern technologies. Although they are called rare earth elements, they are not actually that rare, but they are difficult to extract and refine.

“We have made great progress in resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine,” he added, without providing further details.

He also announced an upcoming phone call with Xi Jinping within the next 24 hours and promised to raise tariffs on China if a deal could not be reached.
