Ukraine aspires to become a member of the European Union in the next 5 to 10 years.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said it in an interview with the Handelsblatt German newspaper, the Government portal informs.
According to him, progress in carrying out reforms is crucial.
“European standards should be achieved in the fight against corruption or in the judiciary. We are working on this. We are also negotiating with Brussels on a Common Aviation Area Agreement and common energy market standards. First of all, it concerns the integration of the United Energy System of Ukraine into the pan-European energy system ENTSO-E. We are approaching Europe” Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine is ready to become a member of the EU.
“We aspire to become a EU member in the next 5 to 10 years. Of course this also depends on 27 other countries, not only us. The same concerns NATO. Ukraine aspires to join the North Atlantic Alliance. We are already working with NATO. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s statements that ‘NATO’s door remains open for Ukraine’ testify to this”, Shmyhal said.
It was reported that the European Commission will allocate 2.45 million euros for the training of Ukrainian civil servants.
