On July 19, Ukrainian Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov and British Secretary of State for Defense John Healey signed an agreement between the two governments providing a loan to Ukraine to boost its defense capabilities.

This was announced on the website of the President of Ukraine’s Office.

“This document will facilitate the initiation of Ukrainian-British projects in this [defence] sector. Specifically, it includes the supply, maintenance, and partial production of air defense systems, armored vehicles, and ammunition. The agreement stipulates that British suppliers can enter into loan agreements and contracts with Ukraine amounting to £2 billion, with the possibility of increasing this amount in the future,” reads the statement.

Loan repeaymant term equals to 15 years, and the worth of the Ukraine-UK contracts may increase in the future.

“The purpose of the agreement is to provide financial support for strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities, which includes the purchase of modern weapons, military equipment, and other defence equipment in accordance with NATO standards,” Rustem Umerov wrote on X.

This move will allow Ukraine’s Defense Forces to be well-equipped with air defense systems, radar and strike capabilities, obtain technologies and establish partial production of barrels, spare parts, as well as with components for Western-type artillery systems and armored vehicles.
