Ukraine and Switzerland agree on joint projetcs for green restoration of Ukraine

Ukraine and Switzerland have agreed to implement joint climate projects for the green recovery of Ukraine. The relevant agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Switzerland was signed by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets, and the Head of the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications of Switzerland, Simonetta Sommaruga, during the International Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano.

“We have taken the first practical step towards Ukraine’s implementation of the market mechanisms of the climate deal. Switzerland will invest in public and private projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in various spheres of activity of Ukraine – infrastructure, construction, transport, energy. In return, Switzerland will receive from Ukraine verified results of reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere,” noted Minister Ruslan Strilets.

According to him, the successful implementation of Article 6 will create new channels of climate financing in Ukraine and incentives for green development for Ukrainian businesses.

“The implementation agreement to the Paris Agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Switzerland is a good start for the green post-war recovery of Ukraine and the achievement of climate goals within the framework of the Paris Agreement,” Ruslan Strelets emphasized.
