UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that Europe and his country need to do more for defense and security.

Sky News reports on the British Prime Minister’s statement.

Speaking about Russia’s war against Ukraine and the “peacekeeping” efforts of the new US administration, Starmer emphasized that no negotiations about Ukraine’s future can take place without Ukraine itself.

“As we enter a new phase of this conflict, we must further strengthen our solidarity. This is not only a moral necessity but also in our national interest,” he said.

Starmer added that “instability in Europe always spills over onto our shores.”

According to him, the UK and Europe must take greater responsibility for defense and security.

He also noted that the US “is right about this” and said that the UK “cannot cling to the comfort of the past.”

“It is time to take responsibility for our security, for our continent,” the British Prime Minister stressed.

“And I clearly understand that Britain will take on a leading role; we must be ready to play our part,” Starmer concluded.

As is known, on Thursday, February 27, Keir Starmer will visit Washington for talks with US President Donald Trump.

According to media reports, the British Prime Minister will present the American president with a plan to deploy fewer than 30,000 European troops in Ukraine in an attempt to secure US protection for the deployment.

At the same time, Starmer does not plan to raise Trump’s recent controversial statements regarding Ukraine.
