The UK has expressed concern over China’s “dangerous and destabilizing” activities in the South China Sea, according to Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

Writing on X (Twitter), Lammy stressed that Britain and the global economy depend on the safety and stability of these key trade routes.

“We are concerned about China’s dangerous and destabilizing activities in the South China Sea… The Philippines is at the forefront of this challenge, facing frequent threats to freedom of navigation and international law,” he stated.

During his visit to the Philippines, Lammy signed a joint framework agreement to enhance cooperation in defense, regional security, and climate change.

Last summer, the U.S. and French navies conducted joint exercises in the Philippine Sea to support a free and open Indo-Pacific. Additionally, the Philippines and Germany committed to signing a defense cooperation agreement this year to uphold international order in the region.

On December 6, 2024, the armed forces of the U.S., the Philippines, and Japan held joint drills in the South China Sea.
