The U.S. State Department has stated that the deepening of ties between Iran and Russia destabilizes not only the Middle East but also the entire world.
This was mentioned by U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a briefing, in response to a journalist’s question about whether the U.S. is concerned about Russia’s possible involvement in the war in the Middle East as an ally of Iran.
“Of course, we believe that the deepening of ties between Iran and Russia is incredibly destabilizing for the region. It is incredibly destabilizing for the world, and this concerns the Middle East. It concerns everything where Iran and Russia are involved,” Miller said in response.
It is known that in September, the U.S. officially confirmed that Iran had supplied ballistic missiles to Russia, further evidence of the deepening military relationship between the two countries.
The United Kingdom and the U.S. have already announced sanctions packages against Iran and Russia. The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, has submitted a sanctions proposal to EU member states in response to Iran’s transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia.
On September 23, European Council President Charles Michel met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New York, during which he attempted to pressure him over the missile deliveries to Russia for its war against Ukraine.
