U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed “simply clearing out” Gaza and relocating its Palestinian residents to neighboring Arab states.

According to The Guardian, Trump made this statement after a phone call with King Abdullah II of Jordan, suggesting that Gazans’ relocation could be “temporary or long-term.”

“I would prefer to work with some Arab nations and build housing elsewhere where they could live in peace and harmony. You’re talking about one and a half million people, and we’ll just clear all of this out and say: ‘You know, it’s over,’” Trump said.

Jordan already hosts 2.4 million Palestinian refugees, many of whom arrived after the 1948 creation of Israel.

“I told him (King Abdullah): ‘I’d like you to take more, because I look at Gaza right now, and it’s a mess, it’s a real mess.’ I’d like him to take the people,” Trump added.
