U.S. President Donald Trump expects Washington and Kyiv to sign an agreement on minerals in the near future.

This was reported by Reuters.

Trump also told reporters during his meeting with the Cabinet of Ministers that the United States is discussing with Ukraine the possibility for American companies to own Ukrainian power plants.

U.S. President Donald Trump also stated that at the negotiations in Riyadh, territorial issues and possible lines of demarcation in Ukraine are being discussed.

It is worth recalling that earlier CBC News reported that Trump aims to change the Ukrainian-American minerals agreement, making it “bigger and better.” Meanwhile, in Ukraine, it was said that the negotiations on the agreement were completed, and the parties are waiting for the signing of the document.

During a recent phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump proposed transferring Ukrainian nuclear power plants under U.S. control, according to a statement from Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz following the conversation.

As Trump assured, the U.S. “could be very helpful” in managing the plants due to its experience in the energy sector, and American ownership of them would be “the best protection for this infrastructure and support for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.”

However, Zelenskyy clarified during his communication with journalists that it was not about all Ukrainian nuclear power plants, but specifically the currently occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Later, the Financial Times reported that the U.S. wants to expand the minerals agreement by adding control over Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
