US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is convinced that a ‘complete ceasefire’ will come in the war between Russia and Ukraine in ‘a few weeks’.

Witkoff said this on Wednesday on Bloomberg.

Commenting on the conversation between the US president and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, Vitkoff said that they ‘agreed on a path to some ceasefire conditions today’, as well as a path to ‘a full ceasefire, which will be discussed in the coming days’.

In his opinion, a ‘full ceasefire’ could be reached in ‘a couple of weeks’.

‘I think we will get there in a couple of weeks. So, a lot of good news. Now it’s up to the technical teams to dot the i’s and cross the t’s, and everyone is interested in this process,’ he assured.

As a reminder, Vitkoff said that a new round of talks on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine would take place in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Sunday, 23 March.

As you know, during the conversation, Putin once again rejected the US proposal for a 30-day complete ceasefire, which Ukraine had previously agreed to. Instead, he supported the parties’ promise to “refrain” from attacks on energy facilities for 30 days.

The parties also agreed to discuss ‘the safety of navigation in the Black Sea’ and to set up Russian and American expert groups to discuss the ‘Ukrainian settlement’.

Following the conversation, the White House said that peace talks on the Russian-Ukrainian war should ‘begin immediately in the Middle East’.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Putin had effectively rejected the proposal for a complete ceasefire by launching a massive drone attack on Ukrainian cities.
