Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen believes that discussions about sending European troops to Ukraine as part of a potential “truce” are premature.
As reported by DR, Poulsen stated that the Danish government, like other European allies, does not rule out the possibility of deploying European forces to Ukraine, but it is still “very, very early” to even discuss this issue.
“Peace negotiations have not even begun yet. We will have to wait and see how events unfold,” he added.
The Danish Defense Minister emphasized that the priority is to wait until the parties sit down at the negotiating table “so that we can see whether peace can be established while preserving Ukraine as an independent country.”
Earlier, the U.S. publicly acknowledged the possibility of deploying peacekeepers in Ukraine to monitor a potential “truce” but stated that American troops would not participate in such a mission.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has publicly engaged in the discussion, expressing his readiness to send British troops to Ukraine for peacekeeping duties.
This topic will also be discussed at an emergency summit of European leaders in Paris, where Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will be present.
