Ambassador of the European Union Matti Maasikas congratulated the country on the 30th anniversary in Ukrainian.
Ukraine continues receiving congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Independence. Ambassador of the European Union Matti Maasikas congratulated people on the 30th anniversary in Ukrainian.
“I come from Estonia and I understand well the true meaning of independence, liberation from the webs of the empire. This means that people leave the negative experience behind, restore their identity and the right to decide their own destiny. According to Taras Shevchenko, “in one’s house – one’s truth, and strength, and will”. The Ukrainian people know better what is best for them” – said Matti Maasikas.
He recalled that from the first days of independence, the EU stood side by side with Ukraine and its people, and in 2013 the protection of European aspirations of Ukrainians became a key driving force of Euromaidan. Matti Maasikas noted that Ukraine has now become one of the EU’s priority partners and one of the largest recipients of financial assistance.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has also congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I send my best wishes to the people of Ukraine in connection with the celebration of Independence Day” – the Department of State said in a statement.
The Secretary of State reminded that thirty years ago the Verkhovna Rada “made a bold choice in favor of a new course of Ukraine as an independent, democratic and sovereign state based on European values”.
Blinken also stressed that the United States has supported Ukrainians throughout this period.
“We firmly believe that a democratic, prosperous and secure Ukraine is in the interests not only of the people of Ukraine, but also of the United States and the international community” – he added.
