U.S. President-elect Donald Trump considers the war in Ukraine a higher priority than the conflict in the Middle East.

Trump stated this in an interview with French media, Barron’s reports.

“I think we need to resolve the Ukraine issue with Russia. Both countries are suffering losses that no one can comprehend. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are dying,” he said, discussing his primary focus on international affairs.

“The Middle East, of course, is also a major priority. But I think the Middle East is a less complicated situation than Ukraine and Russia,” Trump added.

According to Trump, these are “two situations we must address, and we must do so quickly.”

He reiterated his stance that Washington should not interfere in Syria. “Syria will have to take care of itself. We will not intervene in Syria’s affairs,” Trump said.

Previously, Reuters reported that during a meeting with Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris, Trump expressed his desire for negotiations to bring a swift end to the war.

The White House confirmed that Biden and Trump’s teams are in contact regarding the war in Ukraine and developments in Syria.
