The administration of US President Joe Biden has declassified information about large-scale support for the Ukrainian drone industry, which has made them “more efficient and deadly.” The New York Times reports this with reference to American officials.

The United States has invested $1.5 billion in the production of Ukrainian drones, significantly expanding their capabilities. As part of the assistance program, the United States has sent intelligence officers to Ukraine and established ties between American technology companies and Ukrainian manufacturers.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan noted that drone support played a key role in the war. Efforts began after the Kharkiv counteroffensive in the fall of 2022 and intensified in preparation for the counteroffensive in the south in 2023.

Ukrainian drones helped slow the advance of Russian troops in the east and inflicted significant losses on the Russian Black Sea Fleet, destroying up to a quarter of its personnel.

US investment in Ukraine’s drone industry has provided “invaluable lessons” that the US is already integrating into its own defense industry.

Ukraine, with U.S. support, has significantly strengthened its defense capabilities, demonstrating the effectiveness of cooperation in critical technology and weapons.
